VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR LOCAL CONSERVATION PROJECTS

September 28, 2006
Contact: Lynne Flannery (863) 699-3742

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Ridge Ranger volunteers will be lending Mother Nature a hand at two locations along the Lake Wales Ridge.

Polk County residents can help remove brush in Auburndale at FWC’s Lake Blue Scrub preserve. Residents in Highlands County can join the crew to help remove torpedo grass at Archbold Biological Station in southern Lake Placid. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 for both projects and finish about noon.

“The Lake Wales Ridge is home to plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Help ensure the survival of these natural treasures by volunteering for conservation with the Ridge Rangers,” said Lynne Flannery, Ridge Rangers Coordinator.

To register for these projects and learn more about the Ridge Rangers Volunteer Program, contact Lynne Flannery at (863) 699-3742 today.
