FWC ASKS FOR HELP IN DEER-DUMPING CASE

October 30, 2006
Contact: Kat Kelley (352) 732-1225

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has issued a call for information about four freshly killed deer carcasses dumped in a Lake County subdivision Saturday, Oct. 21.

FWC officers found three does and one spike buck in a large white cooler at the end of Chinaberry Street in Royal Trails subdivision. The site is near Lake Mack and Pine Lakes neighborhoods.

Although it is legal for licensed hunters to take does and bucks during the Sept. 23 – Oct. 22 archery season in the state’s Central Zone, investigators suspect the deer may have been taken illegally. Also, wanton waste of wildlife is illegal in Florida.

FWC is asking anyone with any information regarding the deer carcasses to call Officer Kevin Steinke on the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 1-888-404-3922.

Anyone with information about this case or any other wildlife law violation can call the hotline and remain anonymous. If the information leads to an arrest, callers may qualify for a reward.
