In the fall, winter and spring, temperatures are usually pleasant. These are the best times to hike, bike, and horseback ride. In spring and fall, check oak hammocks for neotropical migrants. When the wetlands fill with seasonal rainfall, wading birds may be present. Between May and July, watch for kestrels; they may be the resident subspecies (southeastern American kestrel) of the more common, migratory American kestrel. The subspecies breeds in Florida and is listed as Threatened by the state. Butterfly and plant enthusiasts will appreciate the wildflowers that bloom in the fall and spring and the butterflies they attract. Archery and small game seasons occur in October and November.
