Facilities
Amenities include a small parking area and a one-mile nature trail through the various plant communities within Suwannee Ridge. Once completed, this trail will include educational displays, rest benches, viewing platforms and a self-guided directory to points of interest.
Recreation
In support of the resource management goals and objectives for the area and to provide a quality experience for all area users, the following recreation activities are allowed:
Hunting
Special hunts for the disabled are held in conjunction with neighboring Holton Creek Wildlife Management Area. Hunters must possess all appropriate licenses and permits. The no-cost mobility-impaired quota hunt permits are available by special application for general gun and spring turkey hunts. The area is closed to all other users during these hunts. Wildlife Viewing
Wildlife viewing is most promising along the network of unpaved roads and along the new trail system. Visitors will find a diverse selection of resident and migratory birds and protected species such as the gopher tortoise and Sherman's fox squirrel.
Hiking
Hikers may use the 12 miles of unpaved roads and the new one-mile nature trail during non-hunting seasons. The most pleasant hiking conditions are in the fall, winter and spring.
Public Access
Vehicles, bikes and horses are not permitted on trails at Suwannee Ridge, unless by special permit to mobility impaired individuals. There is one entrance, with parking, onto the public-use area.
Rules Regarding Dogs
- For purposes other than hunting, dogs are prohibited.
- Hunting dogs are prohibited, except dogs on leashes may be used for trailing wounded game. Dogs are prohibited in areas posted as "Closed to Public Access" by FWC administrative action. No person shall allow any dog to pursue or molest any wildlife during any period in which the taking of wildlife by the use of dogs is prohibited.
Location
Located in southern Hamilton County, between Live Oak to the south, and Jasper to the north.
From I-75: Take exit 460 (S.R. 6) west to C.R. 751 south. After 3 miles turn left (east) onto C.R. 249/SW 67th Drive for 2.5 miles to entrance.
From I-10: Take exit 283 (U.S. 129) south to C.R. 249 in Live Oak. Take C.R. 249 north approximately 15 miles to entrance.
