Information for Nuisance Wildlife Trappers:
At the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Meeting of February 6, 2008, the Commissioners approved new rules related to nuisance wildlife that became effective July 1, 2008. See Rules above.
Some of the changes are:
- Definition of Nuisance Wildlife:
- Wildlife that causes or is about to cause property damage, presents a threat to public safety, or wildlife causing an annoyance within, under or upon a building.
- Removal of Nuisance Wildlife Trapper registration:
- As of July 1, 2008 Nuisance Wildlife Trappers will no longer be required to register with FWC and will not be required to have a copy of the registration document with them when trapping nuisance wildlife.
- Bat removal requirements
- Bats may not be taken as nuisance wildlife except that bats may be taken either when:
- That take is incidental to the use of an exclusion device, a device which allows escape from and blocks re-entry into a roost site located within a structure (including chemical repellants), at any time from August 15 to April 15 or
- That take is incidental to permanent repairs which prohibit the egress of bats from a roost site located within a structure provided an exclusion device as described in sub-subparagraph a. above is used for a minimum of four consecutive days/nights for which the low temperature is forecasted by the U.S. National Weather Service to remain above 50° F prior to repairs and during the time-period specified.
- That take is incidental to the use of an exclusion device, a device which allows escape from and blocks re-entry into a roost site located within a structure (including chemical repellants), at any time from August 15 to April 15 or
- Bats may not be taken as nuisance wildlife except that bats may be taken either when:
- Relocation and Transportation of Nuisance Wildlife:
- Live captured nuisance wildlife transported under authority of this section may be done only for the purpose of euthanizing the nuisance wildlife, provided any euthanasia shall be humane as defined by the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians.
- Euthanasia of reptiles or amphibians (nonvenomous, unprotected) or those species listed in subsection 68A-6.0022(2), F.A.C., is not required.
- Non-native species can be kept in captivity or destroyed, but cannot be released.
- Venomous species, Reptiles of Concern, and protected wildlife may only be captured and handled with a valid permit for that purpose from FWC.
- To transport live wild/feral hogs requires a permit from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
- Use of Pesticides
- Only those pesticides that are registered by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services without additional authorizations and are only used in a manner consistent with the product labeling may be used.
Nuisance wildlife trappers wanting to work in, under, or upon buildings must be licensed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) as a pest control company. How to be Listed on this Site as a Nuisance Wildlife Trapper:
- As a service to the public FWC will continue to let Nuisance Wildlife Trappers list their services on its web site at MyFWC.com.
- Click on the "List Me as a Nuisance Wildlife Trapper" button below.
- This will take you to a login screen. If you have not applied for a Fish and Wildlife Commission listing, registration or permit before click on "Register". Enter the requested information and create your username and password.
- Enter your username and password.
- Enter the requested information, including the counties you are willing to work in.
- When you correctly complete the process, you will be listed under the counties you selected.
- You will be listed for one year from the time you complete the listing process. To continue to be listed you must renew you request to be listed annually.
