Wilson's Plover

Identification: 
Two plover species nest on Florida beaches; the Snowy Plover and the Wilson ’s Plover.  Wilson ’s Plover has darker plumage, larger bill, and a complete, single black band visible around the neck (Snowy Plovers have an incomplete, narrower band).  

Breeding Season: 
A solitary nester, but sometimes nests within colonies of other species.  Has been observed nesting on rooftops.  Wilson ’s Plovers are known to nest as early as mid-March.

Clutch Size: 
Usually 3 eggs (ranges from 2-4)

Incubation: 
25 days

Fledge: 
21 days
