All work and no
play is not fun for anyone, especially volunteers. That’s why we offer
special “Edutainment” Opportunities two to four times during the year
for our active Ridge Ranger volunteers. These special activities, that
are both entertaining and educational, are one of the ways we thank our
volunteers. Programs may take place with a partnering agency at a
location along the ridge, through an outside agency or at another area
of special interest in Florida.
Here are some of
the special activities enjoyed by the Ridge Rangers:

Camping
and Conservation
This group of hearty Ridge Rangers shared an evening under the stars
at the peaceful and beautiful youth camping area in Highlands Hammock
State Park. An evening of camaraderie was enjoyed in exchange for a
productive morning removing 100 garbage cans full of the exotic dianella
lily. |
Galaxies & Grub
Volunteers enjoyed home-grown, potluck grub followed by a private tour
of the evening skies. Accomplished astronomer, Kye Ewing organized a
wonderful star gazing event for fellow volunteers at the Royce Unit in
Lake Placid. Several of her astronomy buddies were on hand to share
their expertise and telescopes. Participants enjoyed a tour of Greek and
Roman myths, the rings on Saturn, the Andromeda Galaxy and much more.
Butterflies of the
Ridge
Butterfly experts and enthusiasts Buck & Linda Cooper led fellow
Ridge Rangers in a slide show displaying local butterflies and
butterfly plants followed by a guided butterfly walk. |
