Bay Scallop Restoration

One of the goals of FWRI scientists is to restore bay scallops (Argopecten irradians) to areas where natural populations have been depleted. Juvenile bay scallops, or "spat", are grown in cages off docks to plant in target restoration areas.

These scallops are over 30mm in length and are ready to be transplanted to seagrass beds.
