Habitat Mapping
Through the use of GIS technology, the Center for Spatial Analysis
provides habitat layers for use in analyses that are intended to
assist marine, freshwater, and terrestrial related research,
management and conservation efforts, law enforcement issues, and a
host of other management and conservation objectives.
With Gulf of Mexico Program support, FWRI has worked on
reviewing habitat-classification systems used within Florida and
throughout the world in an attempt to recommend one system as a
State of Florida standard.
The Benthic Habitats of the Florida Keys atlas represents the
culmination of a six-year federal and state effort to map the
distribution and types of benthic habitats within the Florida Keys
National Marine Sanctuary.
