When to Visit

Hilochee has good habitat for butterflies whose numbers peak in the fall. The best time to observe butterflies is between around 10:30 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding is best on non-hunting days in the fall through the spring. Two turkey hunts are held in the spring. Fishing is by permit only and is restricted to daylight hours on Saturdays. Fishing permits are free and may be obtained by calling the Hilochee Wildlife Management Area Field Office at (352) 241-8501

Hunters must comply with all hunting regulations
