Fort McCoy WMA is a privately owned timber plantation located in
northeast Marion County. More than 8,000 acres are currently
available for hunting, fishing, and frogging during hunting
seasons to individuals possessing a valid recreational use
permit. This area is closed to the public during non-hunting
days. There are a limited number of permits issued
each year. No camping is allowed on the area. This wildlife area
consists of scattered clear-cuts, pine-palmetto flatwoods,
cypress ponds, and creek bottom hardwood communities.
White-tailed
deer,
feral hog,
wild turkey, small game, and migratory birds
are common. |
