Fees

No daily-use or Wildlife Management Area permits currently required. If you are hunting or fishing, you must purchase the appropriate license and permit.

Facilities

Over a dozen boat ramps throughout area; picnic facilities at Sand Beach Recreation Site, as well as wildlife viewing tower, pier, paddling launch, and interpretive trail through cabbage palm hammock. The Apalachicola River WEA Recreation Guide is a useful resource when visiting this area.

Public Access

Vehicle use regulations.

Location

The area begins just north of the town of Apalachicola and extends northward to the vicinity of Wewahitchka. Numerous access points to the area from SR 71, CR 381, CR 387, and Sauls Creek Road in Gulf County. In Franklin County, access points are located off of SR 65 and US-98 and CR 384 near Apalachicola.

Additional wildlife viewing sites in the vicinity.

Tate's Hell Wildlife Management Area/Tate's Hell State Forest is east of the area. To the north is Apalachicola Wildlife Management Area/Apalachicola National Forest. The Fort Gadsden Historical site is located off Highway 65 north of the Apalachicola River WEA.  Box-R Wildlife Management Area is southwest of the area.

Ralph Kendrick Memorial Dwarf Cypress Boardwalk is 4.5 miles from Highway 65.

Nearest Cities/Towns

Apalachicola ( immediately south), Port St. Joe (22 miles west), Eastpoint (1 mile south), and Carrabelle (14 miles east).
