Chassahowitzka has a moderate deer herd, an increasing population of feral hogs, and fair numbers of small game and waterfowl. Prescribed burns in the sandhill and flatwoods should improve the habitat for deer. One hundred and fifty regular quota hunt permits and 150 special quota hunt permits are available. A special quota hunt permit is required to hunt during the first 9 days of archery or muzzleloading gun seasons, and a regular quota hunt permit is required for hunting during the first 9 days of the general gun season.
