Visitor InformationFees No daily-use or Wildlife Management Area permits currently required. If you are hunting or fishing, you must purchase the appropriate license and permit. Facilities Over a dozen boat ramps throughout area; picnic facilities at Sand Beach Recreation Site, as well as wildlife viewing tower, pier, paddling launch, and interpretive trail through cabbage palm hammock. Map of Apalachicola River WEA  Public Access Vehicle Use Regulations - Vehicles may be operated only on named or numbered roads.
- Named or numbered roads may be closed by gate to motorized vehicles in areas with established wildlife plantings beginning the second day after the end of general gun season through the last day of the first phase of dove season.
- Parked vehicles may not obstruct a road, gate or firelane.
- No motor vehicle shall be operated on any part of any wildlife and environmental area that has been designated as closed to vehicular traffic
- Use of ATVs are prohibited in that portion of the area posted as Northwest Florida Water Management District lands and on those lands lying east of East Bay and Cash Bayou.
Location The area begins just north of the town of Apalachicola and extends northward to the vicinity of Wewahitchka. Numerous access points to the area from SR 71, CR 381, CR 387, and Sauls Creek Road in Gulf County. In Franklin County, access points are located off of SR 65 and US-98 and CR 384 near Apalachicola. To the north is Apalachicola Wildlife Management Area/Apalachicola National Forest. The Fort Gadsden Historical site is located off Highway 65 north of the Apalachicola River WEA. Box-R Wildlife Management Area is southwest of the area. Ralph Kendrick Memorial Dwarf Cypress Boardwalk is 4.5 miles from Highway 65. Nearest Cities/Towns Apalachicola ( immediately south), Port St. Joe (22 miles west), Eastpoint (1 mile south), and Carrabelle (14 miles east). |
