John Chestnut Sr. County Park

Description:
Shady nature trails and Brooker Creek at the south end of this park complement the cypress swamps and pine flatwoods along the southeastern shore of Lake Tarpon. There is also an observation platform.

Watchable wildlife:
Limpkins are frequently seen searching the shoreline vegetation around Lake Tarpon for apple snails. Alligators, turtles, and snakes sun themselves on logs and exposed roots. You will probably hear, but not see, barred owls, red-shouldered hawks, and woodpeckers. Look for ospreys and bald eagles flying over the lake.

Pinellas County
