Description:
One of Florida's original four state parks, this beautiful tract features a virgin hardwood hammock and a cypress swamp, through which a boardwalk nature trail passes. More than 175 bird species and other wildlife can be seen from eight short nature trails. Watchable wildlife:
White-tailed deer, wild turkey, bobcats, pileated woodpeckers, and red-shouldered hawks often appear near the 3.1-mile paved loop drive. American swallow-tailed kites nest in tall pines near the picnic area and often are seen swooping over the cypress swamp or the hardwood hammock. There are plenty of wading birds, barred owls, anhingas, alligators, and river otters to be observed by patient visitors. Ownership:
