Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission License and Permit Requirements for 2009-2010Unless exempt, all hunters, regardless of where they will be hunting dove, must possess a valid State of Florida Hunting License and a Florida Migratory Bird Permit. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service requires the migratory bird permit for all persons hunting any type of migratory birds in Florida. This free permit can be obtained from any tax collector's office, licensed subagent, online, or by calling (toll free) 1-888-HUNT-FLORIDA (888) 486-8356. To hunt one of the Special-Opportunity Dove Fields all hunters are required to either join the FWC Dove Club or obtain a Special-Opportunity Daily Dove Hunt Permit. The cost of an Annual Dove Club Permit is $150.00 and is non-transferable. An annual Dove Club permit allows the permit holder to hunt all scheduled hunts for a particular field (usually six to eight hunts per field over the course of the three phases of the dove season.), and also allows the adult permit holder to invite a youth, less than 16 years of age, to hunt under his or her supervision and for each to harvest a daily bag limit of birds. Dove Club permits will be available beginning 10:00 a.m. (est.) on July 1 to 11:59 p.m. (est.) on September 9 at any tax collector's office, licensed subagent, online, or by calling (toll free) 1-888-HUNT-FLORIDA (888) 486-8356. The cost of a Special-Opportunity Daily Dove Hunt Permit is $35.50 for regular permits and $45.50 for an adult/youth combination permit. The regular permit enables an adult and a youth to hunt together on a ½ day hunt. However, it only allows one daily limit of birds to be harvested between the two. In contrast, the combination permit allows both the adult and the youth to hunt and each is allowed a daily bag limit of birds. Beginning 10:00 a.m. (est.) on September 17, Special-Opportunity Daily Dove Hunt Permits can be obtained anywhere licenses are sold (tax collector's office, licensed subagent, online, or by calling (toll free) 1-888-HUNT-FLORIDA (888) 486-8356. Lifetime license holders who purchased their licenses before July 1, 1998 can obtain a Special-Opportunity Dove Club or Daily Dove Hunt Permit free-of-charge. To hunt managed dove fields on Wildlife Management Areas, hunters must possess a valid hunting license, migratory bird permit, and wildlife management area permit, unless exempted from license requirements. In some instances, a daily hunt permit, issued at the area check station, or a quota hunt permit may be required. Quota hunt permits are required to hunt Dupuis, Babcock/Webb Punta Gorda Unit, Hilochee Osprey Unit, and Lake Wales Ridge Royce Unit. |
