Once the panther ranged throughout Florida as well as
throughout much of the southeastern United States from Louisiana north and
east to Tennessee and the Atlantic. Today only about 70 adult panthers remain
in national and state parks and nearby private lands in southwest Florida,
making them among the most endangered animals in the world.
