Nonnative Pet Amnesty Day

2008 Exotic Pet Amnesty DayFebruary 23, 2008
Miami Metro Zoo, Miami, Florida
10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

People can donate their unwanted nonnative pets free of charge with no questions asked, at this one-day-only event.

All donated pets will be examined by a licensed veterinarian and if healthy, we will try to place them with willing adopters.

Exotic reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish and mammals will be accepted; domestic pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets) will not be accepted.

2008 Amnesty Day TentsAmnesty Day is a free event and open to the public.  Educational exhibits and live animals will be on display and experts will be on hand to answer questions about exotic animals.  Come and learn about being a responsible nonnative pet owner!

 

Becoming a Nonnative Wildlife Adopter

2008 Amnesty Day DemoIf you are interested in becoming a certified exotic pet adopter, please download and fill out the application form and questionnaire.  There is no fee to become an adopter, but adopters must have experience with and knowledge about the animals they would like to adopt and must meet certain requirements.  Certified exotic pet adopters can adopt surrendered animals at Amnesty events, or year-round through our Statewide Adoption Network.  For more information, please contact Jenny Tinnell by email or at 850-926-0128.

 

To be eligible to adopt animals at the Amnesty Day event in February, applications must be submitted by February 10, 2008.  Applications received after Feb. 10 will be processed for the Statewide Adoption Network.
