Adoption applications are divided into
groups of animals. You may apply to adopt nonnative
pets from more than one group, but you must submit an
application for each group (i.e., if you want to adopt
both birds and snakes, you must fill out and submit an
application form for snakes and one for birds).
In order to be eligible to adopt animals
that
do not require a permit for personal possession, a
husbandry form must be submitted with your application
form. Depending on the types of animals you would like
to adopt, you may need to submit multiple husbandry
forms with your application. For example, to be
eligible to adopt boa constrictors and ball pythons, one
snake application form must be submitted along with a
husbandry form for boas and one for ball pythons. In
order to answer the questions on the husbandry form, you
must use a care sheet. Care sheets are widely available
online or at pet stores. You may use the care sheet of
your choice, but all questions on the husbandry form
must be answered adequately. Attach the care sheet to
the husbandry form, and submit both with your
application form.
If your application form is for
Class III
species,
venomous
reptiles,
reptiles of
concern, or
other species that require a permit for personal
possession, you must have the proper permits before your
application can be accepted. Attach a copy of your
permit to your application form. No husbandry forms or
care sheets are required with applications to adopt
species that require a permit for personal possession.
