Florida scrub-jays play starring role at Feb. 3 festival

The free Florida Scrub-Jay and Wildlife Festival on Saturday, Feb. 3 in Volusia County offers an 8 a.m. early-bird hike, and continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with eco-buggy rides, guided hikes, wildlife exhibits and presentations, and activities for kids.

The FWC, in conjunction with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has established Feb. 3-4 as this year’s statewide Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days. 

FWC conducts aquatic plant control on Lake Rousseau

The FWC will conduct aquatic plant control on Lake Rousseau from Jan. 29 through Feb. 9, weather permitting. Invasive hydrilla will be treated only in boat trails, but water lettuce and water hyacinth will be treated throughout the lake.  

Contracted nuisance alligator trapper sought for south Palm Beach County

The FWC's Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program is accepting applications for a contracted nuisance alligator trapper in southern Palm Beach County (south of State Road 804). 

Spiny lobster trap tag fees waived for 2018-19 season

January 24, 2018 

As commercial fishermen and women begin to purchase their spiny lobster trap tags, this is a reminder that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has waived the $1 per trap spiny lobster trap tag fee for the 2018-2019 season. This waiver was approved at the December 2017 Commission meeting as an action in response to Hurricane Irma. 

Recreational and commercial management changes for cobia in state waters of the Gulf effective Feb. 1

January 24, 2018 

These changes will further promote sustainable management of this fishery and were developed in coordination with anglers who were concerned about the fishery.  

Free Women’s Saltwater Fishing Clinic coming up on St. George Island

The free, day-long clinic is from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Feb. 3 at the St. George Island State Park. 

FWC hosts Lake Okeechobee habitat and fisheries management meeting

The FWC invites the public to enjoy this free, family-friendly Tosohatchee WMA event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27. The event was rescheduled from a previously announced date.
