Ways to help reef fish survive after barotrauma

Descending devices bring fish back down to a depth where increased pressure from the water will recompress swim bladder gases and allow the fish to swim away.

The river’s water levels are falling, but speed restrictions in zones 5, 6 and 8 are still in effect.

FWC Facts:
Brown hoplo, a nonnative, armored catfish, is found throughout central and south Florida. They can survive in low-oxygen backwaters and ditches, where they gulp air at the surface.
