Stone crab season closes May 16

The commercial and recreational harvest of stone crab claws in Florida closes on May 16, with the last day of harvest on May 15. Stone crab season will reopen on Oct. 15.  

Sturgeon collision on Suwannee injures Alachua man

Ronald Dick was up river from Manatee Springs when a 4- to 5-foot sturgeon leapt out of the water and into the boat, striking the man, knocking him unconscious, according to FWC officers.

FWC Facts:
Vessels 16 feet or longer must carry at least 3 daytime and 3 nighttime visual distress signals (or 3 combination daytime/nighttime signals) at all times when on coastal waters.
