Bay scallop workshops scheduled May 24 and June 13

Workshops to gather public input on this summer’s bay scallop season in St. Joseph Bay will be held May 24 and June 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. EDT at the Capital City Bank conference room in Port St. Joe.  

2015 boating accident statistics provide an opportunity for boating safety reminders

Nearly half of boating accidents in 2015 involved collisions and 34 percent of all collisions were due to inattention or the operator failing to maintain a proper look-out.  

A whopping 8,089 lionfish removed off Pensacola, state size record broken, during second Lionfish Day

In Pensacola, 8,089 lionfish were removed in only two days at the Gulf Coast Lionfish Coalition Tournament. At FWC supported events statewide that weekend and leading up to that weekend, another 5,978 lionfish were removed for a total of 14,067 statewide. 

Davis Lake project to improve fish and wildlife habitat

Davis Lake, part of the Tsala Apopka chain of lakes near Inverness in Citrus County, is the site of a project being conducted to improve fish and wildlife habitat, as well as water circulation, in the marsh.
