Shorebird nesting season is underway along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of Florida and the FWC reminds beachgoers to watch out for and to avoid disturbing birds and their young.  

Hearing-impaired accommodation offered at hunter safety course

FWC conducts aquatic weed control on Lake Rousseau

The FWC will be conducting aquatic weed control operations on Lake Rousseau through April 8, using EPA-approved herbicides. During this period, water lettuce and water hyacinth will be treated throughout the lake.  

Boca Grande Pass gear restriction boundary shifts

Sands shift and when they do, sometimes, buoys must be moved and boundaries changed. That’s what happened recently in Boca Grande Pass. Recent changes to the buoys marking Boca Grande Pass will affect tarpon anglers and others fishing in the Pass during the months of April, May and June. 

FWC investigating vessel accident in Destin; numerous injuries, one missing

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), in conjunction with Okaloosa County Sherrif’s Office, Bay County Sherrif’s Office, Panama City Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard, are responding to the scene of a vessel accident that occurred this morning at the Destin jetty.

New flood zones on Santa Fe, Suwannee to be posted

The work includes the replacement and relocation of several existing markers and installation of new markers posting the revised zones. The project is expected to begin late March and be completed by the end of April.  

FWC’S Office of Inspector General working to receive statewide re-accreditation

Hunter safety course offered in Calhoun County

The FWC’s newest way of encouraging divers to target these spiny invaders is the lionfish state records program. 477 millimeters (18.78 inches) is the current record.
