Give Florida’s beach-nesting shorebirds space to help them survive

The FWC asks beachgoers to watch out for and avoid disturbing beach-nesting shorebirds on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the state. Shorebirds build nests out of sand and shells on Florida beaches in spring and summer, hatching chicks that are difficult to see.  

4 Florida counties open April 1 to gag grouper recreational harvest

State waters off the coast of Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson and Taylor counties will open to recreational harvest of gag grouper starting April 1. 

Spiny lobster season closes April 1

March 24, 2015 

The spiny lobster recreational and commercial season closes to harvest in state and federal waters starting April 1 and will reopen Aug. 6.  

Free hunter safety course offered in Santa Rosa County

March 24, 2015 

The course will be at Avalon Middle School, 5445 King Arthur’s Way, Milton. Instruction is from 6 to 10 p.m. March 30, April 1, 6 and 8. The range portion of the class is April 18 from 7 to 10 a.m.
