The Great Outdoors Day Free Kids’ Fishing Derby is July 25 in Kissimmee

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is hosting a free Kids’ Fishing Derby in conjunction with the Great Outdoors Day in Kissimmee.

The derby is Saturday, July 25, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. for children ages 5-15, at the Kissimmee Civic Center Pond, 201 E. Dakin Ave., Kissimmee, FL 34741. An FWC biologist will be on hand to assist participants. Bait and fishing equipment will be provided but children are welcome to bring their own.

The Great Outdoors Day, hosted by the city of Kissimmee and Osceola County, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kissimmee Lakefront Park, 250 Lakeshore Blvd., Kissimmee, FL 34741. The event is about having family fun outdoors. There will be a fishing tournament, Trash Dash (lake cleanup by canoe or kayak), Poker Run, exhibitors, live band, food and much more scheduled at this event.

FWC Facts:
Male cardinals are extremely territorial in the spring, often attacking other birds or even their own reflection in windows. The attacks can go on for hours.
