Come to Free Kids’ Fishing Derby May 3 in Kissimmee

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) and the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce are hosting a Kids’ Fishing Derby in conjunction with the Toho Big Fish Blast Tournament. The derby is Sunday, May 3, 9-11 a.m. for children ages 5-15.

The event is all about having some family fun at the Kissimmee Civic Center Pond, 201 E. Dakin Ave., Kissimmee, FL 34741. The pond is a block away from 11-mile-long Lake Tohopekaliga, more commonly referred to as Lake Toho. Advance registration is not required. An FWC biologist will be on hand to assist participants. Bait and fishing equipment will be provided but children are welcome to bring their own. As an added bonus, Academy Sports is providing door prizes for derby participants.

FWC Facts:
When right whales breathe they produce a V-shaped blow that is often as high as 15 feet.
