The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is investigating a fatal boating accident that occurred Friday evening off Plantation Key (bayside). An 11-year-old boy from Ft. Myers died as a result of the accident.

The victim, Michael Duda, was thrown from a 17-foot flats vessel after the operator made a sharp left turn.  Duda was struck by the vessel and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A 16-year-old male was operating the vessel at the time of the accident.  He was not injured.  Two passengers also onboard the vessel, a 17-year-old female and a 14-year-old female, were also not injured.

The FWC continues to investigate.  No charges have been filed at this time.
