Martin County boater charged in 2009 accident

Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have completed a year-long investigation into an offshore boating accident that occurred Jan. 9, 2009 approximately four and one-half miles northeast of the St. Lucie Inlet.  The accident resulted in serious injury to a diver, Robert Murphy Jr. of Palm Beach Gardens.

The Martin County State Attorney's Office charged Roger M. Nicosia, 56, of Stuart, with violating navigational rules, a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum of 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.

No action was taken against any other persons involved in the accident.
