Festival in Deltona to celebrate the Florida scrub-jay

The Lyonia Environmental Center in Deltona is hosting the Florida Scrub-Jay Festival from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, to celebrate this true Florida native. The festival is designed to teach visitors about this beautiful bird and the scrub habitat on which it depends. Admission to the festival, environmental center and the Lyonia Preserve is free.  

Cold weather delays hydrilla treatment on Lake Lawne

Hydrilla treatment by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) on Lake Lawne in Orange County is postponed until sometime in March because of the continued cold weather. The treatment was originally planned for Feb. 16.  

FWC activates boating restrictions on Suwannee's flooded Zone 3

Floodwaters in the Suwannee River rose to 24.05 feet at Branford Monday, so the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) activated restrictions in Zone 3, from Little River Spring to the County Road 340 Bridge at Rock Bluff.

Kenansville man charged with selling game fish

John Earl Hasson (DOB 05/25/68) of Kenansville landed in the Osceola County jail Feb. 5, charged with illegally selling freshwater game fish (bluegill), frog legs and alligator meat to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) undercover investigators.
