Geographic Information Systems

The FWC uses GIS applications and data as viable tools to carry out necessary activities of rulemaking, protection planning, permit review, and public information response related to endangered and threatened species.

About GIS

A GIS is an integrated collection of computer hardware, software, and data which is used to store, manipulate, display, and analyze layers of information. It is a computer based tool for solving problems that uses the common theme of "location" to tie spatial data to unique features on a map and analyze those features through their associated databases. GIS facilitates better decision making, dynamic visualization, and analysis of spatial relations.
