Aquatic Education Programs

Pass on the Fishing Tradition and Offer the Next Generation an Opportunity to Enjoy Healthy Sportfish Populations

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management offers two volunteer instructor training programs that allow you to be a part of handing down the fishing tradition:

  • First:  A two-hour training that gives you all the tools that you need to teach others basic freshwater fishing skills.
  • Second:  A six-hour training to become a certified Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs ? instructor.  Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs ? is a long-term and mentor-based program that teaches children about angling skills, conservation, stewardship, aquatic ecology, and other related topics.  Additionally, the program emphasizes positive life skills; such as, decision-making, goal-setting, and choosing to remain drug-free.

Both training programs come with instructor's manuals that are very helpful when you plan your first training with children.  To keep you updated on the most current techniques, follow-up training is provided at your request.

There is no charge for either of these instructor trainings and they can be set up at a time convenient for your group of staff or volunteers.  To find out more about either of these training programs please contact:
