REGIONAL TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
North Central Region
The Friends of the Osceola will be conducting 2 NRA Youth
Hunter Education Challenge events at the Osceola Rifle and Pistol Range, Lake
City, Florida in March of 2008. The first event will be an Open Qualifier on
March 1, which will allow teams or individuals to qualify for the Regional
Competition. The Regional Competition will be held at the Osceola Range on
Saturday, March 22, and will include the best shooters from the 4-H competition
held in Bronson on March 8, and the Open Qualifier to move-on to the Florida
State Tournament, held in Ocala on May 3 & 4.
This competition is for young hunters 12 to 18 years old. It consists of .22 rifle, muzzleloader and shotgun marksmanship, archery proficiency as well as written and hands-on tests of firearms safety, orienteering and wildlife identification.
Like all other FWC activities, the challenge is free. Firearms, including youth and adult model .22 rifles, 20 gauge shotguns, muzzleloaders and ammo are provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Youngsters can also bring their own approved rifle or shotgun, and should bring their own archery equipment (compound and recurve bows are allowed). See the FWC's YHEC website at MyFWC.com/YHEC for details.
This is an opportunity to get kids involved in hunting and the shooting sports. Don't miss this chance, let Steve Robbins, Regional Coordinator know that you would like to participate. Contact him at: Steven.Robbins@MyFWC.com or (386) 758-0525 during business hours
