BIG BASS TOURNAMENT--TOP 10 RESULTS

LAKE CONROE - LAKE CONROE MARINA, TEXAS

"DATE: JULY 24-25-26, 1998"

NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED IN FLORIDA FOR 1999 SEE RELEASE!

Staff from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and Florida Wildlife Foundation of Florida Inc. visited the recent Outdoor Adventure Series Tournament at Lake Conroe to begin making plans for the 1999 Outdoor Adventure Series in Florida. The information and photos below are provided to give anglers and their families a preview of the fun and excitement that's planned for Florida in 1999 and to ensure them that these are professionally run tournaments that focus on family fun, resource conservation and safety. The following list of the top 10 bass caught during the Lake Conroe amateur bass tournament is an example of past tournament results conducted by Outdoors Adventures. In addition to these fish, 143 other prizes were awarded to anglers. A total of five Champion boats-motors-and-trailers were given away, three to individuals catching the first 3.00, 4.00 and 5.00 pound fish. Since no 6.00 or 7.00 pounders were caught, those boats were given away to two lucky anglers based on a random drawing of all registered anglers. Suzuki gave away 11 four-runners to the angler catching the biggest bass every other hour of the tournament, with $4,000 going to the angler catching the biggest bass on the off hours. In all, $450,000 in prizes and cash were awarded to amateur fishermen during this three-day event.

Anglers & Spectators both receive prizes at weigh-ins.In addition, spectators by simply registering for free were eligible for hundreds of give away prizes from hats and t-shirts to lures, to tackle boxes to quality fishing rods and ultimately to $1,000 in cash given away each day at noon. Spectators also had the whole fishing village to meander through, shop and play in. With catfish ponds for the kids to fish in, fishing simulators, the hawg trough displaying many of the big bass caught in the tournament, moon walks and more.

Tournament sponsors have a great format with the hourly big fish weigh-ins to help maximize excitement and fish survival. In addition to encouraging families to come out and support the contestants, safety and care of the fish are key issues. Each fish is checked prior to weigh-in, every winner's boat is checked for safety equipment, and all of the fish are carefully tended prior to release. To ensure compliance with all state and federal laws, including having proper fishing licenses or being legally exempted, as well as the tournament rules for fishing times and locations, polygraph tests are conducted on many of the winners.

It's a great event to promote the value of fishing--while enjoying family, friends and nature. We look forward to the series starting up in Florida in 1999. The first Florida event will be out of Okee-Tantie on Lake Okeechobee 19-21 February, followed by an event on the Kissimmee Chain out of River Front Park on Lake Toho from 19-21 March and then going on to the River Front Park in Palatka for a St. Johns River tournament on April 30 and May 1-2. Keep watching our web site for applications and updates.
