DESPITE RUMORS HURRICANE LAKE OPEN TO FISHING

Despite rumors to the contrary, Hurricane Lake in the Blackwater River State Forest is not closed to fishing.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Fisheries Biologist Norman Young says the rumors apparently began after the North Campground Ramp Road and Kennedy Bridge Road, which is the normal access to the South Campground Ramp Road, were closed to accommodate road paving work by the Florida Division of Forestry. However, Young said there are other roads which lead to the South Road Ramp on the lake.

He said anglers can get to the south boat ramp by going north on Beaver Creek Road from State Road 4, then taking Bullard Church Road and an unnamed dirt road after crossing Hurricane Creek. He said an unimproved ramp is also open where North Centerline Road intersects the lake.
