TROPICAL PARK FAMILY FISHING EVENT ON APRIL 1ST A PERFECT INTRODUCTION
WEST PALM BEACH--Free Fishing Weekend, April 1-2, is a great opportunity to take the kids freshwater fishing and mom and dad don't even have to buy a fishing license to join in the fun.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation Division will sponsor a free fishing day event from 8:30 a.m. until Noon, Saturday, April 1 at Tropical Park, according to FWC fisheries biologist John Cimbaro. No fishing license required for the event.
"We will provide everything a novice angler will need including rod, bait, and individual instruction," Cimbaro said. "Prizes donated by local merchants will be awarded to participants by random drawings at various times during the day."
Tropical Park is located at 7900 SW 40th St. (Bird Road), Miami, Fl. 33155. Further information on the free fishing days event may be obtained by calling Jose Ponce at the park headquarters, 305/226-8315. (Map)
No license is required to fish in freshwater anywhere in Florida during Free Fishing Weekend although all fishing regulations still apply. Cimbaro said the promotion is designed to introduce the sport to new anglers and encourage the return of former anglers who haven't fished in recent years.
