NEW LAKES AND NEW RULES AT TENOROC
Fishing is great fun and a wonderful way to enjoy nature while visiting with family and friends. At the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Tenoroc Fish Management Area (FMA) they’re always looking for ways to make the fishing there better. The Tenoroc fisheries staff is proud of the fact that fishing there has always been well above average.
"We’re always exploring new ways to improve fishing here at Tenoroc. There are some new regulation changes and new lakes set to open that should enhance the quality of fishing here,"said Danon Moxley area manager.
On July 1, 1998 the following regulation changes will take effect:
Lake 2:The regulation requiring adult anglers to be accompanied by an angler under 16 years of age will be removed. The quota of boats will be reduced to six and largemouth bass angling will be "catch and release"only.
Lake 5:The regulation that restricted largemouth bass fishing to "catch and release"only will be removed. Anglers will be allowed to keep two bass under 15 inches total length per person, per day.
Picnic LakeThe minimum size of largemouth bass allowed to be kept will be increased to 16 inches, total length. All bass less than 16 inches, total length, must be returned to the water unharmed immediately after capture.
Lake Derby, Lake Cemetery, and Lake HydrillaAn aggregate panfish bag limit of 20 fish with a minimum size limit on bluegill and redear sunfish of eight inches will be established.
"In addition to these new regulation changes, three lakes will be opened, for the first time, to public fishing,"Moxley said.
Lakes Shop, F and G will be open beginning July 1, 1998. Due to the small size of the lakes, only three boats will be allowed in each, at any one time. Reservations will be limited to one boat per day, per lake. Reservations will be taken, starting June 4, 1998, by calling (941) 499-2422. Anglers can call to make reservations Thursday through Sunday from 6:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Lakes F and G have only primitive boat ramps. Anglers should plan on hand launching small boats like canoes and Jon boats. Shop Lake has a 12 foot wide ramp permitting launching of larger boats. Fishing regulations for the new lakes will be:
All other regulations not listed are subject to general state restrictions.
