LITTLE RED WATER LAKE BOAT RAMP NOW OPEN
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announced that anglers and boaters can now take advantage of the brand new public boat ramp facilities at Little Red Water Lake (map). A general upgrade to the lakeside facility at the popular lake has just been completed. The public access ramp was closed for about a month. The FWC routinely schedules boat ramps for maintenance or replacement. There are eight public ramps in Highlands County that the FWC helps manage and maintain (see here for all the FWC South region ramps).
"The work on the ramp was paid for by fishermen and boaters who help fund public boat ramps and other resource management projects through their purchase of state fishing licenses," said FWC Regional Fisheries Biologist Tom Champeau. These state-generated dollars are matched with federal money generated by the Federal Sport Fish Restoration Program. Federal dollars originate through an excise tax on fishing tackle and boating-related purchases.
For more information on public access fishing, call the FWC*s Division of Freshwater Fisheries in Lakeland at (941) 648-3202.
