FISHING REGULATION CHANGES ON CAMP BLANDING FMA
Fishermen enjoy catching fish, but just as important to most fishermen is the opportunity to spend time on an isolated lake that is known for it’s beauty and tranquility. The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is taking steps to insure that local fishermen have just such an opportunity on Lowry Lake and Magnolia Lake Fish Management Areas.
"Effective July 1, 1998, both lakes will be an idle speed only area. The FWC has a mandated agreement with the Florida National Guard to manage the lakes for recreational fishing and in order to provide a more quality fishing experience, it is necessary to make the lakes idle speed only," said Jerry Krummrich, regional fisheries administrator. Another change that becomes effective on July 1 is the statewide regulation reducing the daily bag limit on black crappie (speckled perch) to 25 fish per day/per person. Anglers will still be allowed to possess 50 panfish such as bluegill and redear sunfish (shellcracker).
Lowery and Magnolia lakes are located on the Camp Blanding Fish Management Area near Keystone Heights in Clay County.
For additional information on regulation changes, consult the 1998-99 Sport Fishing Regulations Summary available at county tax collector offices, sporting goods stores or by contacting the FWC at (904) 758-0525.
