VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR
JOHNS LAKE WORKDAYProperty owners who live on Johns Lake, and the general public are invited to join with biologists from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to plant giant bulrush in portions of the lake which is located in Lake and Orange counties. This will be done in concert with a larger effort to replant an extensive part of the shoreline of the lake with native aquatic plants that were lost to grass carp grazing and the drought.
Native aquatic plants are important for water quality and fish survival.
This effort will be on Saturday, March 24, from 9 a.m. until about noon. Volunteers should wear old clothes and either old athletic shoes or boots that can get wet and dirty. They should meet at the Johns Lake Boat ramp south of SR 50 near Oakland at 9 a.m. The FWC will provide the plants and the digging tools.
