EVOLUTIONARY HISTORY OF BEARS
- Black bears are descendants of meat eating
(carnivore) dog relatives.
- Black bears crush and grind their food rather
than tear and shred like their canine relatives.
- The Florida black bear and the Florida panther
now are still surviving in small numbers.
- In southwest Florida, the Florida panther and the
Florida black bear share portions of the same habitat.
