Aquatic Resources and Sportfishing Education
Program
"Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs® (HOFNOD) is an angling education program for
youth. The program uses best management practices, public/private partnerships,
and quality educational materials to effectively recruits anglers from all
sectors of society who become responsible stewards of aquatic resources.
HOFNOD's mission to promote and educate the public about the sport of fishing,
thereby, increasing participation in fishing and stewardship of aquatic
resources. Its main goals are to teach about fishing skills, benefits of
fishing, aquatic ecology and conservation, drug prevention and keeping kids drug
free.
This angling education curriculum is administered by the Future Fisherman
Foundation, the non-profit education arm of the American Sportfishing
Association. In Florida, HOFNOD is coordinated by the Aquatic Resources and
Sportfishing Education Program of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission.
Training workshops include topics such as:
- Teaching and Learning Fishing Skills
- Conducting a Fishing Clinic
- Age-group specific activities and lesson

- Integrating the Curriculum to Education
Goals
- Teaching about Environmental Ethics and
Conservation
- Implementing and Expanding your Program
- Resources Available for New Instructors
- Meeting Federal and State Drug Prevention
Criteria
Workshops consist of didactic and hands-on
activities and can be presented in one full day.
Participants receive the HOFNOD Instructor's Guide, the Fishing Clinic
Instructor Guide, Kids Fishing Books for the students, and other support
materials.
