Florida's Nonnative Wildlife. Species detail.First year: 1930's Extirpated year: Unknown Established status: Species were formerly present in Florida, but are no longer present. Estimated Florida range: 2 counties Not reported breeding Statewide trend: No current population Threats to natives: Unknown Species Account: This Eurasian species was introduced successfully to several parts of the western United States as a game bird. Several attempts to introduce this bird in Florida have failed. It is still common to release captive bred chukars for sport shooting but habitat and climate is unsuitable and they don't survive in this area (Christensen 1996). In its native habitat the chukar lives or rocky hillsides, open desert with sparse grasses, and barren plateaus (American Ornithologists' Union 1983). Habitats: Agricultural habitat | County | First Year | Extirpated Year | Breeding status | Notes | | Duval | 2001 | | Not reported breeding | Unconfirmed ID from dead bird reporting | | Pasco | 1996 | | Not reported breeding | Pranty 1997d |
