How to Get a Boater Education Identification Card

More Boating Information

  • Take a course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).

  • Submit a letter with your name, date of birth, return address, phone number and proof of completion of the course:

  • Or you can take the "How to Boat Smart" correspondence course and follow the directions provided on the test.

  • Visitors from out of state who do not have a card issued by their home state can take a Temporary Certificate test.

Your card should look like the image belowFlorida Boating Safety Education ID Card, Orange life vest and yellow state of Florida in background, Participant info, expiration date and text: This is to certify that the above has successfully and satisfactorily completed a safe boating course as issued or approved by the State of Florida.  The reverse side of the card says Safe Boating with Bobber and lists 6 safety tips: Don't drink and drive, wear your personal floatation device, file a float plan so others know when to expect your return, know and follow the boating rules of the road, respect the environment and fellow boaters so Floria's waters can be enjoyable for everyone, be a responsible and knowledgeable boater.
