The Blue Springs Unit is one of 14 tracts located in western Hamilton County. These nearly 2,000 acres are covered in sandhills and pine plantations. Bird dog training opportunities are available during November and December, and a free daily permit is required. In addition, bobwhite quail hunting opportunities may be available by special opportunity permit application. Miles of marked trail roads provide opportunities for wildlife viewing, hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. Gopher tortoise, indigo snake, brown-headed nuthatch , turkey, white-tailed deer, and northern bobwhite are some of the wildlife species that can be seen on the area. This area is a site on the Great Florida Birding Trail. Children under the age of 16 are required to wear a helmet when horseback riding on public lands. For more detailed information go to Nicole's Law . All horseback riders must have proof of current negative Coggins Test results for their horses when on state lands. One picnic site is located on the area. Camping is allowed during non-hunting periods by landowner permit. Contact the Division of Forestry at (386) 208-1461 for more information.
