St. Johns River Water Management District |
Bayard WMA is comprised of more than 9,000 acres in southeastern Clay
County, south of Green Cove Springs extending nearly seven miles along
the western bank of the St. Johns River. Floodplain forests line the
river, while pine flatwoods and sandhill communities are found on higher
ground in this diverse area. Recreational activities include hunting,
bank fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking,
horseback riding, bicycling, camping, and picnicking.
White-tailed deer,
bald eagle,
osprey,
wild
turkey, and
gopher tortoise are a few of the species that are found on
this area. Although the area is accessible by water, there are no boat
launches. For additional information, a
recreation guide is available from the St. Johns River Water Management
District. |
