The Friends of the Osceola, a group of sportsmen and women associated with the Osceola Rifle and Pistol Range in Lake City, will be conducting the annual "Women's Handgun Safety Day" at the range April 24 at 10 a.m.

"This is an exciting event for women and designed for beginners," said Steve Robbins, Hunter Safety Program coordinator. "There will be discussions on safety, range etiquette, proper storage and the basic how-to and why of handling firearms."

The cost of the class is $5 and a box of .38 special or 9mm ammunition. Certified National Rifle Association instructors will teach the course. Women should bring their own weapons, but organizers will have some firearms.

"Participants will have the opportunity to shoot a variety of handguns," Robbins said. "If you have a gun in your home, or you know someone who does, you should be at this event. The number of participants is limited, so sign up today."

The organizers will serve lunch at noon.  Participants will receive a certificate that satisfies the Concealed Weapons Permit requirement for a safety course.

Call the FWC Hunter Safety Office in Lake City, 386-758-0525, to register or for further information.
