Artists and poets, grades K-12, get your pens and brushes poised for an opportunity to write and draw your way to Washington D.C. The Annual River of Words Environmental Poetry and Art Contest collects entries that interpret the theme of watersheds. The contest is a unique marriage of science, art and education and is sponsored by the International Rivers Network and The Library of Congress Center for the Book. Its ultimate purpose is to help children discover their "ecological address" by exploring their local watersheds or natural landscapes. Contest deadline is February 15th. For more information, including teacher resources, contest guidelines, entry forms and examples of winning art and poetry from previous contests, write: River of Words Project, 1847 Berkeley Way, Berkeley, CA 94703; (510) 848-1155; or visit www.riverofwords.org. | |
