Special activities:

  • Native plant nursery - every Thursday morning at Royce Ranch; schedule is flexible and individual work any day of the week is encouraged!  Your schedule becomes our schedule.
  • Lakewatch - Initial training, Oct. 14.  Additional lakes and positions available.
  • Invasive Plant - GPS location and identification - Initial training, November 3 at Pelican Island; FWC vehicle(s) will leave Sebring at 7:30 a.m. for a full-day training session with USFWS at their Pelican Island location.  Check the schedule and contact volunteer coordinator if you are interested.  Youth programs - watch the schedule; bring new ideas to the volunteer coordinator.

Event Activity:Clean up around nesting area and vacuum out existing cavities and get information on new releases, in preparation for a shipment of additional birds
Remarks:Activities will prepare site for a shipment of additional red cockaded woodpeckers, expected shortly.  Volunteers will get information on methods of releasing new birds in preparation for the volunteers' involvement in working with the new shipment.
